A trailer for the new Netflix series Bodyguard was released ahead of the show’s debut on the streaming service.

After a successful run in the United Kingdom, the 6-episode British series, Bodyguard, will start streaming on Netflix on October 24.

Bodyguard tells the tale of a war veteran named David Budd who becomes a Specialist Protection Officer for the London Police. After he’s assigned to guard Home Secretary. Julia Montague, a powerful and ambitious politician, Budd becomes torn between his beliefs and his responsibilities. Given his access, could being the man responsible for the Secretary’s safety make Budd her biggest threat?

Game of Thrones‘ Richard Madden plays Budd and Line of Duty‘s Keeley Hawes plays Julia Montague.

The trailer showcases the series’ screw-turning tension and political intrigue. Take a look below at the latest footage:

Bodyguard has echoes of Netflix’s other political thriller, House of Cards, although this show appears to feature more action and mystery than the other.

With House of Cards returning for a sixth and final season on November 2, fans of political thrillers will have a lot to keep them busy in the coming weeks. Plus, the two shows offer the perfect complement to the USA’s upcoming November 6 midterm election (don’t forget to vote!).

Of course, as a British series, Bodyguard delves into the inner workings of the United Kingdom’s government, which many Americans aren’t especially familiar with. However, after its success across the pond, it seems the series’ suspenseful story could be of interest to Americans and the rest of the globe.
