Kaya Scodelario has replaced Emma Roberts as the lead of Netflix’s upcoming drama series Spinning Out, set in the world of competitive figure skating.

Kaya Scodelario is now headlining Netflix’s upcoming figure skating drama series Spinning Out, according to Deadline.

The lead role of Kat Baker, a singles skater forced to reinvent herself after a devastating fall on the ice, was originally going to be played by Emma Roberts. However, shortly after her casting was announced, Roberts withdrew from the series due to a scheduling conflict.

Spinning Out follows Kat as she tries to pick up the pieces after a fall derails her skating career. Kat is ready to call it quits until she realizes her Olympic dream can be achieved another way — pairs skating.

She teams up with a “talented bad-boy partner” and faces a host of challenges: physical, mental and financial. But her true Achilles’ heel is the secret she’s guarding that could ruin everything.

Scodelario is best known for starring as Teresa in The Maze Runner trilogy and Carina Smyth in Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales.

However, the British actress began her career on the small screen, playing Effy Stonem in the critically-acclaimed and controversial teen drama Skins. Scodelario last appeared on television in the 2013 mini-series Southcliffe.

Spinning Out was created Samantha Stratton, who is a former competitive figure skater. Stratton most recently worked as a producer and writer on Mr. Mercedes.

She will serve as a co-executive producer and showrunner, alongside Lara Olsen. Tory Tunnell, Joby Harold and Matt Schwartz will also executive produce.
