American Gods to air complete first season this Saturday on Starz

American Gods was a groundbreaking new Starz series when it premiered back in 2017.

Based on the amazing novel by Neil Gaiman with an immensely talented showrunner in Bryan Fuller leading the way, American Gods was more than anyone could have expected when it hit TV.

Sadly, the second season is coming in 2019 without Fuller behind the making of the TV show.

Thanks to Starz refusal to raise the budget and Gaiman’s reported displeasure in the direction Fuller was taking the story, Starz removed the showrunner.

American Gods marathon coming to Starz

While season 2 of American Gods will premiere on March 10, 2019, fans can catch up on the greatness that Bryan Fuller brought with a season 1 marathon this Saturday (Dec. 29).

The American Gods season 1 marathon on Starz will kick off at 3 p.m. EST, 12 p.m. PST and all eight episodes will air for fans to either relive the amazing story or for fans to experience it for the first time.

Starz is also offering fans a chance to sign up to receive Starz without a cable plan and are offering a $20 Target gift card for new subscribers.

It does require a three-month subscription, but at only $5 a month for this special, that means you will be on board when the second season of American Gods premieres in March.

That does little to encourage those who had a Starz subscription before (such as those who dropped it after Starz canceled Ash vs. Evil Dead) but might encourage newcomers to give Starz a chance in order to catch this American Gods marathon.

American Gods season 2

This is all an attempt to get people ready for American Gods season 2 for when it premieres in March 2019.

Jesse Alexander became the new showrunner, following Bryan Fuller. The good news is that he worked with Fuller on both Hannibal and Star Trek: Discovery, so fans didn’t expect too much of a chance in style.

Sadly, he didn’t work out well and he rubbed many cast members the wrong way, re-writing scripts on set and Starz ended up firing him, leaving producing director Chris Byrne and line producer Lisa Kussner in charge.

There are some changes in the story as Media will change from the classic character portrayed by Gillian Anderson to a new social media character portrayed by Kahyun Kim (Shameless).

Also new to season 2 is Dean Winters (Divorce) as Mr. Town and Devery Jacobs (The Order) as Sam Black Crow.

With so much turmoil, American Gods season 2 is a giant question mark on whether the eight episodes will come anywhere near the brilliance of the first 10. The good news is that this Saturday, fans can relive those first 10 all over again and then hope for the best.
