Black Mirror has a brand new episode coming on Friday called Bandersnatch and the trailer is here.

The Netflix horror anthology series is only releasing one extended episode at this time, but it appears to be more in line as a short film rather than a typical episode.

It also looks a whole lot like San Junipero when it comes to the fun nostalgic factor — emphasized with the ’80s look of VCRs, punk style and Frankie Goes to Hollywood telling us to “Relax.”

What we know about Black Mirror: Bandersnatch

For one thing, the title alone means that this is going to be a trip into a very strange world, as Bandersnatch is the name of a creature from Through the Looking Glass by Lewis Carroll, the follow-up novel to Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland.

As for the episode, Black Mirror: Bandersnatch takes place in 1984 and is about a young programmer (Fionn Whitehead, Dunkirk) who is tasked with creating a video game based on the fantasy novel Bandersnatch.

The trailer makes it looks like the fantasy world of the novel, the virtual world of the video game and reality start to blend for the protagonist possibly due to the mysterious pills that a co-worker offers him to help.

Also playing into the crazy is the fact that the book’s author, Jeremy F. Davies, went nuts and lopped off someone’s head so maybe there is something in the story that they are adapting that drives a person over the edge.

Also, if Black Mirror: Bandersnatch is as great as it looks, it could lock up yet another award possibility for the Netflix anthology series.
