Light as a Feather season 1, episode 6 recap: …Troubled as the Tide
By Wade Wainio
In episode 6 of Hulu’s Light as a Feather, Violet compels Allie to arrange another round of a deadly game, and Candace gets committed.
As this episode begins, Principal Morris (Robert Rusler) finds dead crows scattered outside, then Isaac (Brent Rivera) passed out in a coma. It’s a bit surprising, though, because Isaac looked pretty much dead in the previous episode after Violet Simmons (Haley Ramm) somehow sapped him of life energy.
When McKenna (Liana Liberato) learns of this situation, she says she doesn’t believe drugs did the trick on the young man. In fact, everyone in her groups suspects what seems obvious to everyone but the parents.
Meanwhile, Candace (Ajiona Alexus) wakes up in a hospital, which is a bit mysterious and unwelcome for her. Then we see Trey (Jordan Rodrigues) talk to Henry (Dylan Sprayberry) about the mysterious death of Marc Regan — with the obvious implication that Henry’s sister’s death is similar.
Henry was originally hostile to Trey, blaming him for his sister’s death. However, Henry’s been hearing similar things from McKenna regarding Violet and the strange game of “Light as a Feather” they played which eerily predicted the death of Olivia Richmond (Peyton List)
A brand new game, much like the old game
The awkward factor is escalated when Allie (Brianne Tju) and Violet are in shop class together. In fact, Violet makes no attempt at subtlety with her. She threatens to get her in further trouble over pills that killed McKenna’s sister, using it to blackmail her to arrange a new game of Light as a Feather, Stiff as a Board.
Later, as if to feed Allie’s reputation as a pill-popping troublemaker, Allie almost chokes on a pill she found in her locker (was this some spell cast by Violet, or just a coincidence?). Later on, as one might suspect, Allie’s dad inspects her bag for pills
Other strange things happen, too. McKenna’s mom notes all the plants are dying in their house. While it could just mean bad housekeeping, we know it likely means something else. Soon after that reveal, Henry and McKenna travel to the family home of the deceased Marc Regan, to speak with his mom (Timi Prulhiere).
However, she gets irate and orders them out of her house. It’s not a total loss, though. Her daughter, Lena Regan (Harley Graham), says she played the game at boarding school. Though specifics aren’t laid out, it’s apparent that her brother’s name must have come up during the festivities.
Later on, Allie tries to visit Candace but she’s not there. She’s ended up in therapy, due to some incredible manipulative convincing from Violet. Candace is apparently there against her will and doesn’t quite understand the reasoning.
However, when some psychiatric thugs try to force her into the water, Candace fears for her life. She recalls her method of undoing, spoken of by Violet in the graveyard. Very few people want to drown, and Candace is no exception. She starts to panic, but we don’t quite know if she’ll be safe.
