The Americans has a solid chance of walking away with three Golden Globes this weekend!

The Americans has come to an end, and it’s about darn time that the world starts to notice. After six seasons of Russian spy drama, The Americans has already been sweeping the award circuit with the latest being at the Emmys. It’s long overdue, and as a huge fan, I couldn’t be more ecstatic about it.

The series has been nominated for three Golden Globes including Best Drama Series, Best Lead Actor in a Drama Series, Matthew Rhys, and Best Lead Actress in a Drama Series, Keri Russell. In its final season, the story came full circle and ended on a bittersweet note. I won’t ruin it for anyone that has yet to watch it, but it was exactly the type of ending we would have imagined.

And it appears critics have noticed just how amazing The Americans has been all along. It might have taken until its farewell season, but it’s a given that the series deserves to walk away with both awards. Rhys recently won an Emmy for his role and is favored to win the Golden Globe as well (at least according to Gold Derby and myself).

His partner on the show and in real life, Keri Russell, is also nominated for a Golden Globe for her role as Elizabeth Jennings. This one really puts a smile on my face because Russell has killed it throughout the six seasons of The Americans. Her competition is tough but it also proves she is battling against the best of the best.

The final season brought forth some of Rhys’ and Russell’s best work yet and was one of the series’ best seasons ever. There was drama, angst, suspense, and far as the story took a turn we didn’t see coming. It’s not often that shows can articulate an ending that is satisfying. But The Americans did it and it would not have been possible without Rhys and Russell.

All three Golden Globe nominations must turn into wins for this amazing series that we will dearly miss. I couldn’t imagine a show that deserves it more than them, so here’s to hoping!

The 2019 Golden Globes will air on Sunday at 6 PM EST on NBC!
