AMC unveils new The Walking Dead photos for mid-season premiere
By Derek Johns
Less than two weeks to go until The Walking Dead returns to AMC and a new batch of set photos have been released.
The photos, for the most part, are what you would expect. Assorted cast members of The Walking Dead walking down roads, characters on horseback and an action shot of Daryl.
There is, of course, one notable and obvious change of pace, this is the first batch of premiere photos without Andrew Lincoln.
However, there’s also a rather interesting photo of Negan, out and about holding a shovel. What he plans to do with said shovel is unclear. Sure it’s possible he’s merely using it to dig for something (though what he would be digging for raises further speculation). It’s also possible that he could be using it as a temporary replacement for Lucille.
Now while Negan had previously spent all of season 9 (or about 8 years in real time) inside his jail cell, in the mid-season finale, he was able to walk out after his cell was accidentally left unlocked.
The timing of Negan’s escape should come as no real surprise to fans of the comics since the war against the Whisperers is now kicking into gear.
In the comics, he proved to be an unlikely and crucial ally in the Whisperer conflict and through this alliance was able to earn his freedom and Rick’s trust.
The second half of season 9 will premiere on AMC February 10 and February 3 for AMC Premiere users.
