Legion is going to out with a bang!

Earlier this week it was reported that FX’s Legion would be ending with its upcoming third season. However, the official Twitter account for the show had some exciting news for fans to look forward to. Actor Harry Lloyd has officially joined the cast to play one of the most infamous X-Men characters of all time, Professor X.

Comic book readers know that the main character of Legion, David Haller (played by Dan Stevens), is the son of Professor X. While the show hasn’t really explored David’s parentage that much, a short scene in the first season showed Professor X’s wheelchair when he dropped off his son to his new adopted family.

The tweet also confirms Stephanie Corneliussen will appear in the third season as Gabrielle Haller, or David’s mother. In the comics, Gabrielle is a Holocaust survivor who falls in love with Xavier after he helps her recover from a catatonic state. It’s unclear if Legion plans to use the same backstory for her or how much they plan to dive into either parents’ past.

It’s also stated that Corneliussen and Lloyd are “guest castings” for the final season. This certainly makes it seems like Legion doesn’t plan to use them for the entirety of the season. Considering Lloyd is a year younger than Stevens, it seems safe to say the two will only appear in flashbacks or memories.

Harry Lloyd is well-known for his supporting roles in movies like The Theory of Everything and current award show darling, The Wife. Stephanie Corneliussen has an impressive resume of television roles including a series regular role on Mr. Robot, and a recurring stint on DC’s Legends of Tomorrow and Deception.
