Avenue 5: Silicon Valley’s Zach Woods to star in HBO comedy pilot
By Ariba Bhuvad
Zach Woods is heading to a new comedy on HBO’s upcoming pilot, Avenue 5.
Zach Woods is well-known for his role as Jared on HBO’s Silicon Valley. We’ve come to love him as the nerdy, clueless individual of the bunch but now it seems we will be seeing him in a different comedy for HBO’s upcoming space-related pilot, Avenue 5.
According to Deadline, Woods has been cast in a lead role and will star alongside House’s Hugh Laurie as well as Suzy Nakamura (Curb Your Enthusiasm) and Rebecca Front (The Thick of It).
Armando Iannucci (The Death of Stalin) will be the creative genius behind this pilot as the creator, writer, and executive producer. The pilot is set sometime in the future and will take place in a new type of environment–space.
Zach Woods will be playing the role of Matt Spencer who is the head of Customer Relations, per Deadline. As expected, Woods will be playing a nice guy role but with a twist–he’s a nihilist. But regardless of that, he’s excited to go back to Earth as a promotion. Given that he was once a performer, perhaps he’ll take that up again once he goes back.
Avenue 5 was given the green light by HBO back in 2017 and is finally getting ready to build more upon its project. Perhaps the most exciting part about this pilot is that we will see Zach Woods and Hugh Laurie together, two very different comedians but ones that many of us love.
Their dynamic will certainly make for some hilarious moments and we look forward to seeing how that comes together.
Woods currently stars in HBO’s Silicon Valley and has guest starred on The Office and Veep in the past.
Right now, he is filming a film with Will Ferrell and Julia Louis-Dreyfuss called Downhill that will premiere sometime in 2020. It’s safe to say, he is busy.
