Josh Radnor has been added to the cast of Jordan Peele’s Nazi hunter drama The Hunt.

This is obviously not a television adaptation of the Danish drama of the same name starring Mads Mikkelsen. Amazon and Jordan Peele’s The Hunt has added Josh Radnor (How I Met Your Mother) to the cast of the Nazi-hunting drama. Radnor will star alongside Al Pacino, Logan Lerman, and Jerrika  Hinton. Jordan Peele executive produces the series that follows an organization of Nazi hunters living in New York City in 1977.

The group discovers that there are hundreds of ex-Nazi officials living across the city and band together to take them down to prevent the coming of the Fourth Reich. Radnor will play movie star Lonny Flash, who secretly joins Pacino’s Nazi-hunting organization.

Radnor is best known as Ted from How I Met Your Mother but has recently moved on to several stage and screen projects, including starring roles in PBS’ Mercy Street and NBC’s Rise, and a guest starring spot on Grey’s Anatomy. He recently starred as Seymour in the Kennedy Center’s production of Little Shop of Horrors alongside the original off-broadway production’s Seymour Lee Wilkof as Mr. Mushnik and Megan Hilty as Audrey.

While the series is primarily a drama, there’s quite a lot about the premise and the cast that makes me think its not entirely meant to be taken seriously. Radnor is undoubtedly a capable dramatic actor and is equally adept at comedy.

It’s hard not to think about Quentin Tarantino’s Inglorious Basterds, a similar sort of Nazi-hunting alternate history drama that had more than its fair share of hilarity among the loftier ideas and casual gore. Given Peele’s penchant for thoughtful and creative social horror (Get Out, The Twilight Zone), I’m betting the content of the series will go deeper than the vengeance plot it advertises.

Series creator David Weil will executive produce and showrun with Nikki Toscano, with Peele’s Monkeypaw Productions producing with Sonar Entertainment. Weil is an up-and-coming screenwriter with a lot of buzz and production speculation surrounding scripts, but The Hunt is the first of his ideas to get produced. Toscano is an experienced producer behind hit shows like Bates Motel and 24: Legacy.
