The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel is going to be bigger and better in the upcoming third season–and we can’t wait!

The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel is one of my favorite shows of all time, and that’s saying a lot. It’s clever, hilarious, light-hearted, and is unapologetic for giving empowerment to its female characters.

The era of the 50s and 60s was a different time and gender roles were expected to follow a certain path. However, the character of Midge Maisel, played by the incomparable Rachel Brosnahan, shatters any such roles and expectations of the time and does so with sass and class.

Over the weekend, the cast and creators of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel attended a panel at Paleyfest LA to talk about the upcoming third season, according to Variety.

Over the course of the first two seasons, we’ve seen Midge’s character evolve from a domesticated housewife to a successful comedian who is prepping to head out on tour. It’s been a drastic change but a humbling one for this character, and it honestly gives me all the feels.

During the Paleyfest panel, moderated by Patton Oswalt, the cast and creators had some tidbits to share about where season 3 will take Midge and all the other characters. After learning about her comedy tour at the end of season 2, Midge is overwhelmed with what this means for her future and goes to find solace from Joel (Michael Zegen). In fact, she ditches her love interest, Benjamin (Zachary Levi), to do so, and as she found herself wrapped in Joel’s arms, the scene goes to black for the rest of us.

So, what does this mean for the third season of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel? Is Benjamin going to be out of the picture, or was this just a one-time thing? Brosnahan has some insight into what is going on in Midge’s head regarding what this hookup means for Midge and Joel, according to her interview with Variety.

"I think that Midge does believe that. I don’t think it’s about their relationship, I think it’s about trust and comfort, she’s entering this brand new path that’s scary, there’s no path that’s already been forged ahead of her, unlike her former life, and I think it’s a moment of comfort and connection before she steps off the deep end on this big tour."

The panel did not reveal a premiere date for season 3 as of yet, but shooting is set to begin on March 20th with just one script written so far by creator Amy Sherman-Palladino. Not many details were shared during the panel but with Midge heading out on tour, Sherman-Palladino says that “That is going to bring its own story twist to it, we’re definitely going to some different places in Season 3.”

Heck. Yes. The Catskills episodes were some of the best of season 2, so I can only imagine how Midge traveling to other places will be like. And if I wasn’t already impressed with how wonderful this show is, then this would have won me over for sure. According to the cast, Sherman-Palladino often hands them the final script “a day before shooting” which means things are taking place as filming begins. If that doesn’t speak to their talent, I have no idea what does.

Given the time period the series takes place in, Oswalt asked the cast what events or people they would like their character to come across. Brosnahan stated she’d love to see Midge see or be a part of the feminist movement of the 60s and 70s while Alex Borstein said “I would like to see Susie bang Elvis. A young, firm Elvis.”

There was a lot to enjoy and take away from The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel panel and while filming hasn’t started just yet, I already can’t wait for season 3 to return!

Other panel members include Shalhoub, Marin Hinkle, Kevin Pollak, Caroline Aaron, and executive producer Daniel Palladino, according to Variety.
