Schitt’s Creek is officially coming to an end.

Over the past year, the CBC and Pop series has had a surge in popularity thanks to Netflix. However, Deadline reports Schitt’s Creek will end after a sixth and final season despite the high ratings. While it’s bittersweet to say goodbye to the critically beloved show, it seems like this was a creative decision more than anything.

Series creators Dan and Eugene Levy, who are not only father and son in real life but also on the show, wrote a letter to fans to reveal the news. In the letter, the two express gratitude at being able to continue Schitt’s Creek for so long and give the season 6 announcement.

Brad Schwartz, the President of Pop, had only positive things to say about the decision. In his statement to Deadline, Schwartz applauded the series success through the years.

"“Schitt’s Creek is that rare zeitgeist show that creates incredible fandom, catalyzes culture, and receives best-of-television critical praise for its intelligence, character development, laughter and heart. Schitt’s Creek has given all of us a joyous gift that, in my opinion, places the show among the very best. Everyone at Pop could not be more proud than to have been associated with what Dan Levy and Eugene Levy created alongside this amazing cast and crew. While we will miss this gem with all our heart, we are thrilled that the show will end its run exactly as the show’s creators intended.”"

Schitt’s Creek has been the face of the Pop network for quite a long time. In fact, the show’s growing fanbase is what put the network on the map for many viewers. While it’s always been critically adored, fans have been flocking to Pop through the years as the series’ audience continued to grow.

Five seasons in, Schitt’s Creek has continuously found ways to continue the Rose Family saga. It’s amazing to see how far the family has come and see the cast gain success through the years. On top of Dan and Eugene Levy, the other stars include Catherine O’Hara, Annie Murphy, Emily Hampshire, Chris Elliott, Jennifer Robertson, Noah Reid, Dustin Milligan, and Karen Robinson. Another member of the Levy clan, Sarah, also has a recurring role on the show as Twyla, the local diner owner.
