Netflix’s The Eddy has tapped Andre Holland as its star.
Damien Chazelle’s highly anticipated Netflix series has finally found its leading man. Deadline reports Moonlight star, Andre Holland, is boarding The Eddy as both the lead and an executive producer. The musical drama is Chazelle’s first television series and he’s expected to direct a handful of episodes in the first season.
Holland will be playing a former jazz pianist named Elliot Udo. Once famous for his music in New York City, Elliot has fled to Paris and co-owns an unsuccessful jazz club. He has plenty of emotional baggage which seems to weigh down his sporadic relationship with his lead singer. Luckily, he gets a wake-up call in the form of his teenage daughter inspires him to get his act together.
The Eddy will revolve around Elliot’s club and the people who perform there. Most notably, the owners and the house band, as well as modern-day Paris where the show takes place. Deadline also confirms all eight episodes will film in France and the series will have dialogue in English, Arabic, and French.
Damien Chazelle is known for his Oscar-nominated films La La Land, The First, and Whiplash. While The Eddy is his first show, he also has an untitled drama series in development with Apple TV.
Meanwhile, Andre Holland has been on the rise the past few years with some incredible roles. He was one of the stars of Moonlight and was also in Disney’s A Wrinkle in Time. He was nominated for a Satellite Award for his role in The Knick and stood out during American Horror Story: Roanoke as well as secured a starring role in Hulu’s Castle Rock. Next, he can be seen in Steven Soderbergh’s sports drama, High Flying Bird. Holland not only stars in that but also helped come up with the story for the movie.
