Cobra Kai season two trailer: Back where it belongs
By Luke Lucas
It’s the 35th anniversary of the original Karate Kid! Celebrate with a trailer for the new season of the critically claimed and ratings-grabbing Cobra Kai.
Cobra Kai is YouTube Premium’s most popular show. In fact, there are quite a few people out there who may believe that the continuation of the 1984 classic is the only show on the fledgling streaming service. That’s why YouTube is likely as excited as fans for season two.
Per a report from Deadline, the trailer for season two of Cobra Kai has dropped. The season sees Johnny (William Zabka) quest to build Cobra Kai into something special. But with the return of Kreese (Martin Kove), Daniel’s project is going to be undermined.
It’s true. Johnny’s Cobra Kai is a macho endeavor. Its rock star performances and stardom are already going to be an issue. Grown adults have issues handling fame. Teenagers? Man, alive. Look out. Add in Kreese’s motto of “Strike first, Strike hard, No mercy” it’s easy to see how Johnny’s group will be pulled into the dark side.
The balance is the small number of students who will now be trained by Daniel (Ralph Macchio) at his Miyago-Do. Daniel will have to balance a constant threat from Daniel and Kreese with training his students and raising his own family.
The trailer includes nods to the Karate Kid when Daniel has his students help build their own dojo. It’s complete with coordinated efforts to paint a fence, sand a fighting space, and wax a familiar yellow car. We’re set to see a classic force of light rising to meet a growing darkness.
Joining Macchio, Zabka, and Kove in this season of Cobra Kai are Xolo Mariduena, Tanner Buchanan, Mary Mouser, and Courtney Henggeler. The fight for the soul of martial arts is just starting to pick up steam. We’re hoping that the new generation’s role in the series will continue to grow. There doesn’t need to be a full passing of the torch, but the stronger the supporting characters get, the longer the show will last. Cobra Kai returns April 24 exclusively on YouTube Premium.
