Sara Gilbert joins Atypical for season 3!
The Connors may not be back until this fall but fans will be able to see Sara Gilbert back on their screens soon enough. Deadline confirms the actress has booked a recurring role on Netflix’s Atypical for the upcoming third season.
Gilbert will be playing Professor Judd, a university ethics professor who will probably be someone who Sam interacts with at college. She is described as someone who is “generally irritable and chronically underwhelmed, yet capable of compassion”. It will be interesting to see how she factors into the storyline for season 3.
Atypical stars Keir Gilchrist as Sam, an autistic teenager on the cusp of adulthood who is becoming more independent. His younger sister Casey (Brigitte Lundy-Paine) is also trying to discover herself while balancing her fiercely protective nature for her brother, new school, and rocky relationship with her parents. Meanwhile, his mother Elsa (Jennifer Jason Leigh) and father Doug (Michael Rappaport) try to hold everything together throughout the series.
Sara Gilbert stars on and executive produces ABC’s The Connors as well as created, produces, and hosts The Talk on CBS. However, Gilbert is expected to leave the talk show this August to focus on her acting career. Recently, she also appeared in a handful of episodes for YouTube’s Weird City as Jathryn. She took to Twitter to share her excitement regarding the news and revealed Atypical is one of her favorite shows.
Netflix has yet to announce when the third season will premiere. Season 1 debuted in the summer however season 2 came out in early September. Hopefully, that means season 3 will return in the late summer/early fall. The streaming service renewed the series for ten episodes back in October.
