Game of Thrones: Maisie Williams talks about Arya’s and Gendry’s big scene
Did you google Maisie Williams’ age last night while watching Game of Thrones? You weren’t alone.
Warning: Spoilers for Game of Thrones season 8, episode 2 below.
Millions of people took to the internet last night to make sure Maisie Williams, who has played Arya Stark on Game of Thrones since she was 11-years-old, was old enough to have a sex scene.
Don’t worry; she’s 22-years-old.
I get it, though. We’ve watched Arya grow up before our eyes. We’ve seen her go from a spunky little tomboy to a sneaky assassin. But somewhere in that time, she became a woman. And come one, the girl has loved Gendry (Joe Dempsie) since she met him back in season 2.

If you’re not sure what I’m talking about – Arya lost her virginity during last night’s episode to Robert Baratheon’s bastard son, Gendry.
With it being its last season and all, Game of Thrones was bound to shock the audience in some ways. And little Arya losing her virginity was not one of them on anyone’s radar.

For Arya/Gendry ‘shippers, it was a long time coming. But some, including Williams herself, thought she was being pranked.
Williams first found out about the scene from her on-screen sister and off-screen bestie Sophie Turner.
They all received the scripts at the same time, but Turner got to the scene first and called Williams – who was only halfway through the first episode – and told her:
"“Whatever you do, you have to skip to this episode, this scene first.”"
But knowing that creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss can be jokers, she thought it could be one of their “fake scripts.” When she found out she wasn’t being pranked, her first thought was:
"“When do I shoot this? I need to get to the gym.”"
For Dempsie, it was understandably awkward at first. He’s ten years her senior and has known her since she was 12-years-old. But they’re professionals when it’s all said and done. He said,
"“At the same time, I don’t want to be patronizing toward Maisie — she’s a 20-year-old woman. So. we just had a lot of fun with it.”"
