Ghost Rider is set to return, this time on Hulu. The latest Marvel series to be announced by the platform will feature Gabriel Luna as Robbie Reyes.

Hellfire never looked this good! Variety has announced that Gabriel Luna will be reprising his role as Robbie Reyes, aka Ghost Rider, for Marvel’s live-action series on Hulu. Luna had previously appeared as the character in the first half of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 4, and immediately became a fan-favourite with his character design and tortured persona.

Reyes was unfortunately written out of the rest of series due to lack of budget to create the Ghost Rider special effects but that didn’t stop fans from asking for more Robbie Reyes. And it seems that fans have got their wish. Luna himself tweeted about his excitement to return at Ghost Rider:

It isn’t clear whether Reyes’ story arc will overlap with that of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., though. Variety reports that the character on Marvel’s Ghost Rider will not be connected with the ABC show, and instead will have a separate arc.

Luna’s Reyes was a refreshing change from the Johnny Blaze iterations viewers have come across in different properties, especially since Reyes is a Latino hero intent on fighting for the innocent. In Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., with the help of his signature car and chains, Reyes aided S.H.I.E.L.D. while also protecting his brother Gabe. The original Ghost Rider was only hinted at on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., but it is possible that he may play a part on the Hulu show.

Avengers: Endgame may be the end of an era, but that doesn’t mean Marvel doesn’t have more aces up their sleeve. Hulu has already announced several other Marvel series, including Tigra and Dazzler, Howard the Duck and M.O.D.O.K., along with the currently ongoing Runaways series, and new series Helstrom.

Will these Marvel-Hulu shows connect via a new universe, or will they all be standalones? Considering how varied the titles are, they will likely work better on their own.

Given the lack of diversity in Marvel’s cinematic properties, a show featuring Latinx and Hispanic characters across the board will prove relevant in today’s age. And considering the popularity of Luna’s Robbie Reyes, this new Ghost Rider show may well herald a new era of television superhero properties.
