9-1-1 fans, secure a tissue box or two for this week’s episode. Trust us, you’ll need it.

9-1-1 got us right in the feels this week in the most devastating way possible. But before I dive into the soul-crushing part of the episode, let’s talk about everything else that went down in “Be Careful What You Wish For”—starting with Maddie. It is no secret that Maddie kills it at her job as a 9-1-1 responder. If we all had someone like her on the other end of an emergency call, we could get through anything.

Unfortunately, Maddie is starting to doubt her abilities and the impact she’s making because while she helps people get help, she’s not able to see it all the way through. I’ve never done anything of the sort, but I can imagine the frustration that comes with a job like this. Having been a nurse before this, Maddie wants to go back to doing something that she gets to see all the way to the end.

As a result, she decides that maybe its time to go back to her roots and leave the 9-1-1 call center behind. Not if your coworkers can help it, Maddie! In what is the world’s sweetest gesture ever, one of her coworker’s contacts some of the people Maddie has helped along the way. They each voice the impact that Maddie has had on their lives since they made their distressing calls. I’m not going to lie, I got pretty damn teary-eyed.

But Maddie’s arc pales in comparison to Eddie’s, and if you haven’t seen the episode, you should not read ahead. Seriously.

Shannon’s return has done wonders for Eddie and Christopher, and their family life. So much so that Eddie is eager to stay married to her, however, Shannon wants exactly the opposite.

Oh, and there’s a slight chance that she could be pregnant. Well, that reveal doesn’t last very long because later during a romantic dinner not only does Shannon tell Eddie that she’s not pregnant, but she thinks they should get a divorce.

She wants to be a better mother to Christopher, and focusing on their marriage just isn’t the priority right now. While I’m annoyed at Shannon, I commend her for knowing what she wants, and going for it! And if our gentle hearts weren’t already on the verge of shattering, then what happens next does the trick.

While out on a call, the team arrives on the scene of a car accident in which the driver tries to convey that she hit people with the car. And it turns out that one of those people was…SHANNON. Ugh, yes, Eddie’s Shannon! What are the odds? And why did you do this to us, 9-1-1?

Unfortunately, Shannon’s condition is too far gone and she doesn’t make it. It’s so devastating to watch Eddie say goodbye to her and then witness the moment he tells Christopher as Shannon’s voiceover reads the letter she wrote to Christopher all those years ago. Sigh, even thinking about it is crushing my heart.

In all the gloom and doom of 9-1-1, Chimney steps in as the Interim Chief in Bobby’s absence. He’s struggle central at first and isn’t quite sure how to handle being the boss. But before we know it and with Bobby’s help, Chim steps up his game. We really need Bobby to get back ASAP, the team just doesn’t work the same without him.

This was a heavy one, 9-1-1. I can’t imagine what you have in store for us in next week’s season two finale. Do we even want to know?

The 9-1-1 season two finale airs next Monday on Fox at 9 PM EST!
