Hear ye, hear ye, Starz decrees that The Spanish Princess will get eight more episodes!
The Spanish Princess got some good news today, and I have to say, I am stoked! The story of Catherine of Aragon will be brought to a close after eight more episodes, according to Deadline. Set to return as Catherine and Henry VIII are Charlotte Hope and Ruairi O’Connor, along with the same showrunners and executive producers.
The season premiered on May 5th, so this news comes just short of a month to the date. For those of you who don’t know, The Spanish Princess is a part of a Starz trilogy which started with The White Queen and then continued with The White Princess. It’s quite an accomplishment for the series to get extra episodes considering its predecessors didn’t.
The story of The Spanish Princess is told from the perspective of women and gives viewers insight into a part of 16th-century history that’s often overlooked–how people of color lived and worked during this time period. At the heart of the series is Catherine of Aragon whose fate was decided as a young child and whose life story is illustrated through her journey on taking the English throne.
The EPs/showrunners shared their excitement for the additional episodes, and I have to say, my excitement is equivalent, if not more, to theirs.
"We are thrilled to tell the next chapter of Catherine of Aragon’s story as she negotiates war, politics and marriage to the most dangerous King of England/ As a company that always produces compelling and dynamic projects, Starz has been a great creative partner and we look forward to concluding Catherine’s journey with them."
As the story of Catherine comes to a conclusion, fans can look forward to seeing where her story goes in the final eight episodes. Considering Starz has been behind this endeavor from the get-go, my expectations and hopes are high for the end! Now, the waiting begins.
