I Am Not Okay With This: Six join cast in upcoming Netflix YA series

Six actors have been cast in the new Netflix series I Am Not Okay With This, including Sophia Lillis in the lead role.

I Am Not Okay With This is based on the graphic novel The End of the F***ing World by Charles Forsman. The origin story will star Nancy Drew and the Hidden Staircase‘s Sophia Lillis. Wyatt Oleff (Guardians of the Galaxy), Sofia Bryant (The Good Wife), and Kathleen Rose Perkins (Episodes) have also been cast as series regulars. Meanwhile, Aidan Wojtak-Hissong and Richard Ellis will recur on the series.

I Am Not Okay With This is a coming-of-age tale about a teenage girl grappling with the challenges of high school, her complicated family, and her sexuality — all while she deals with her newly awakening superpowers.

The series was created by Jonathan Entwistle and Christy Hall. Entwistle also created and directed Netflix’s The End of the F***ing World, whose first season debuted in 2017. The second season of that series is currently filming.

For I Am Not Okay With This, Entwistle and Hall will both serve as executive producers while Entwistle will direct and Hall will write. Two of the producers of Stranger Things Shawn Levy and Dan Cohen will also executive produce.

Lillis has starred on TV as Young Camille in Sharp Objects and played Beverly Marsh in the film It, a role she’ll reprise in the upcoming It, Chapter Two.

I Am Not Okay With This has already started production in Pittsburgh. It will hit the streaming service sometime next year.

The series will be an interesting companion piece to the darkly funny The End of the F***ing World, although it’s not clear how or if the two series will fit together. Still, The End of the F***ing World was successful enough to warrant a second season so Netflix is likely hoping for similar success with I Am Not Okay With This.
