Love, Simon: Ana Ortiz will play lead in Disney+ series

Whiskey Cavalier may be over, but it’s not the last we’ll see of Ana Ortiz, thanks to the Disney+ adaptation of Love, Simon.

Love, Simon is taking its story from the big screen to the streaming screen thanks to Disney+. Inspired by the 2018 movie, this version has roped in Whiskey Cavalier alum Ana Ortiz (yes!). We don’t know a whole lot about the Love, Simon series but Ortiz is the first to officially join the cast.

It will be a half-hour series by the creative minds behind This Is Us, Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger according to a report released by Deadline. The fact that anyone from This Is Us is going to be involved is enough to convince me to watch it, no matter what the series is. The fact that its going to be after this beautiful story makes it all that better.

Unlike the movie, the Disney+ series will follow a different character by the name of Victor and Ortiz is going to be playing Victor’s mom, Isabel. For those of you who didn’t watch the movie, it was a heartfelt story about a gay teen named Simon who hasn’t told anyone the truth about his life. Hints or clues about the Disney+ series can be likely be found in the book the movie was based on, “Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda”, by Becky Albertalli who shared her enthusiasm about the series on Instagram.

As a result of the series, Ortiz will get to work alongside producer Brian Tanen with whom she has worked with on Ugly Betty and Devious Maids. From the looks of it, it’s going to be one heck of a reunion–and we can’t wait to see what comes of it.

Love, Simon is just one of many original shows that will be heading to Disney+ once the service officially begins later this fall. I won’t lie when I say that it’s nice to hear about a non-Disney related series coming to the platform. We’ve been overwhelmed with information about either a Disney, Marvel, or Lucasfilm related series heading to Disney+ so hearing about Love, Simon and Ana Ortiz joining it is a welcome change!
