11 Netflix Originals to keep you away from the July heat
Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee: Season 11 (July 19)
There’s no doubt that Jerry Seinfeld’s Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee is a unique and interesting concept that has inspired a series of car-based entertainment variations. Seinfeld notes as much in the trailer for season 11 of the series, specifically citing James Corden’s Carpool Karaoke as a popular example. It’s crazy to think that Seinfeld’s series is entering its eleventh season, but its a testament both to how many people Seinfeld knows and how well respected he is as a comedian in the industry.
Seinfeld has hosted some impressive names in the past, including some individuals who may not necessarily be considered comedians (like President Obama, for example). This season is no different, as some of the names on the roster include Eddie Murphy, Seth Rogen, Ricky Gervais, Matthew Broderick, Jamie Foxx, Sebastian Maniscalco, Martin Short, Melissa Villaseñor and Bridget Everett.
Orange is the New Black: Season 7 (July 26)
Believe it or not, Orange is the New Black is about to enter its final season. Season seven will shake things up a bit with Piper (Taylor Schilling) navigating life on the outside while some of her less fortunate inmates remain in prison. While normally this would be the ideal outcome for a prisoner, Piper’s new wife Alex (Laura Prepon) is one of the inmates still awaiting release. Whether or not their relationship survives the separation is one of the major questions of the season, but the actors are confident in the direction of the relationship.
“I think that’s the love of her life,” said Schilling. The series will continue to investigate questions of social injustice, racial imbalance, gender identity, and sexual orientation among other contemporary issues. While season seven is set to be the series last, the possibility of sequel series has been raised but with no confirmed plans in the immediate future. Only time will tell, but those involved sound open to the possibility when the time is right.
