Potential Nominations:

There are three shows that I think could be unexpectedly nominated over the ones mentioned above, because as past nomination announcements have shown us, it’s anyone’s game.

Catch-22

Premiered: May 17th, 2019

Where: Hulu

Based on the novel by Joseph Heller, Catch-22 is a dark comedy about a U.S Air Force bombardier during World War II who is overwhelmed by the concept of war and what it requires him to do. He can’t avoid his missions but can’t ask to be removed from either due to a “catch-22”.

This series may not possess the “oomph” the shows above do, but with George Clooney, Kyle Chandler, and Hugh Laurie as a part of the cast, I wouldn’t completely ignore it either. There’s enough here to give the series a chance at being nominated, at least for something.

A Very English Scandal

Premiered: June 29th, 2018

Where: BBC One/Amazon Studios

Based on the story of Jeremy Thorpe, A Very English Scandal possesses just about everything we love about shows that depict true events. Is it comparable to shows like Chernobyl and When They See Us? Maybe not, but there are certain things here that I do love (mystery, love, drama), which is why it’s under the potential list.

Starring Hugh Grant and Ben Whishaw, this series goes deep into the scandal that involved Jeremy Thorpe, a Parliament member who was accused of planning to murder his ex-lover. The series has already snagged nominations during award season last year so I won’t be surprised if it sneaks its way into the 2019 Emmys.
