The Old Man: Jeff Bridges returns to TV with new FX drama
Jeff Bridges makes his return to the silver screen with new FX drama, The Old Man.
It’s been over fifty years since Jeff Bridges has starred on a TV show but that will change this year. The acting vet is slated to star in the upcoming FX show, The Old Man, as a retired CIA officer. It’s being developed from the co-creators of Black Sails (Jon Steinberg and Robert Levine) and promises to be one of the most anticipated new adaptations.
The Old Man is based on a book from Thomas Perry which follows Bridges’ character, named Dan Chase, as he reconciles with his past to ensure his future. Chase cut ties with the CIA years ago and has chosen to live his life “off the grid”, however that all changes when he becomes the target of an attack.
The basic storyline doesn’t seem all that new, in fact it sounds pretty similar to the Jack Reacher series and Shooter. However, considering the creative forces behind the TV show and the fact that Jeff Bridges signed on, there’s no doubt that the The Old Man will have its own unique twist.
Bridges is also tapped to be an executive producer alongside Warren Littlefield (Fargo and The Handmaid’s Tale), Jon Steinberg, Robert Levine, Dan Shotz, David Schiff, and Fox 21 Television Studios.
Production for the series is expected to take place this fall which hopefully means that we’ll get to see it sometime next spring. Steinberg and Levine will be writing the script for the series but there is no word yet on any other casting or if a director has been chosen for the pilot.
