American Horror Story: 1984 is taking us back to slasher movie roots with a first look at the upcoming ninth season.
American Horror Story has covered so many different time periods, situations, and strange storylines, but for season 9, we’re heading back to the 1980s. And it’s not just that it takes place in the 80s, we’re also getting the whole slasher thriller vibe to go along with it. And we all know there’s nothing like a Halloween type movie to freak us the hell out.
As reported by Entertainment Weekly, FX released a teaser for the upcoming season and once you watch it, you’re instantly taken into the world of classic 1980s horror, specifically Friday the 13th. The backdrop is Camp Redwood and of course, there’s a killer on the loose hiding under cars and lurking in the waters, unbeknownst to the kids preparing to live it up at summer camp.
The trailer doesn’t show anyone we recognize that is confirmed to be in the season including Emma Roberts, Matthew Morrison, Billie Lourd, Cody Fern, and more. Which I think is intentional because once you start to see familiar faces in a trailer, it pulls you out of the world the creative team is trying to place you in. So I can totally see why they wouldn’t want to show any of them, but I’m definitely looking forward to what they bring to the new season.
American Horror Story will be a bit different this year, however, because neither Sarah Paulson nor Evan Peters will be in it. I believe this will mark the first time that neither one of them will be in the show which totally bums me out. When I think of American Horror Story, I think of them. They will most definitely be missed!
