The Baby-Sitters Club: Alicia Silverstone and Mark Feuerstein join Netflix adaptation
The Baby-Sitters Club adds Alicia Silverstone and Mark Feuerstein!
The highly-anticipated Netflix adaptation of The Baby-Sitters Club has found its stars. Deadline has reported that Alicia Silverstone and Mark Feuerstein have been tapped to lead the cast.
The ten episode series has already begun production in Vancouver and hopefully will debut sometime this year. The Baby-Sitters Club is based on the incredibly popular and successful book series by Ann M. Martins. It revolves around five best friends: Kristy Thomas, Claudia Kishi, Dawn Schafer, Mary Anne Spier, and Stacey McGill.
Silverstone will be playing Kristy’s mother, Elizabeth Thomas-Brewer, and since she’s being billed as a star will probably have a significant arc in the series. Feuerstein takes on the role of her love interest, Watson Brewer.
There hasn’t been any other casting news yet on the series however since it’s started production, Netflix will probably reveal who’s who soon enough.
Alicia Silverstone recently starred on Paramount’s American Woman and a supporting role in the psychological thriller, The Lodge. Mark Feuerstein was the writer, director, and star of the CBS sitcom 9JKL but is most famously known for his starring role on USA’s Royal Pains.
Netflix has assembled a strong creative team for the series with Rachel Shukert from GLOW set to be the showrunner on the series and Lucia Aniello of Broad City to direct.
This is the third attempt to adapt the famous book series. There was a 1990’s series on HBO and Nickoldeon which lastest thirteen episodes. In 1995, there was a film version which is still beloved by many today.
