Sweetbitter season 2, episode 6 recap: Truffles and Champagne
With one week before Sweetbitter’s season finale, Tess is faced with some tough decisions.
As teased last week, Tess is caught between two tasty options on Sweetbitter: Will and Jake.
On one hand, she could go with the safe, sweet Will. Recently promoted to assistant manager, he has a soft spot for Tess. She has never tasted the elusive white truffle, so he not only arranges to have her try it, he puts it on her favorite, toast.
She rewards him with a kiss in the closest. He’s boyfriend material and I think she wants to like him more than she does.
But he’s just not Jake. She wants Jake and she can’t help but feel the way she feels. When she admits this to Simone later in the episode, Simone tells her, “then you shall have him.”
I think maybe Simone is softening on the idea of Tess and Jake because she has grown so fond of Tess. Maybe she could be a positive influence on him.
Speaking of Simone, we meet her ex-husband, Etienne. Because I already know Simone, I have assumed that he is the one who ditched her or did her wrong.
That’s not the case.
Etienne is handsome, charismatic, and wealthy. He lives in France and lives a full life making wine and champagne. Simone was living this good, beautiful life with him. Yet, she was unhappy.
Simone is thrown off when she finds out Etienne is in New York, even in the restaurant meeting with Howard and he doesn’t reach out to her. So, she shows up at his hotel. They share a brief, but passionate kiss and talk about the past.
I’m thinking, what was not enough for Simone?
Before Etienne leaves New York, Simone suggests that he let her come work for him selling the champagne they made together. He turns her down and admits he didn’t want to see her in New York, isn’t interested in rekindling a romance, and doesn’t want her working for him.
Next week is the two-episode season finale, so hopefully we will see some sort of resolution between the Tess-Will-Jake love triangle.
