Audience Network dropped the season 3 trailer for Mr. Mercedes. Is there a new story? Are we done with Brady Hartsfield? What about Lou? We’ve got details!

Season two of Mr. Mercedes ended with retired detective Bill Hodges (Brendan Gleeson) painting evil smiley faces in his backyard. Not just any evil smiley faces. The kind that were the calling card of Hodges’ obsession, the serial killer Brady Hartsfield (Harry Treadaway), better known as Mr. Mercedes.

Brady was killed by his former partner Lou Linklater (Breeda Wool) in court during his trial. She hadn’t forgiven him for stabbing her in season one.

And that plot twist is how the show will continue its story into season three. The trailer, which you can watch below, features Lou incarcerated and convicted for killing Brady. Her lawyer, Roland Finkelstein (Brett Gelman), asks if anyone actually wants to give the person who killed Mr. Mercedes the death penalty. Meanwhile, Lou desperately wants out of jail. Finkelstein confides in Bill that Lou is talking to the very dead Brady. And he answers her. Yikes.

As for the new story, Bill is seemingly brought out of retirement again after acclaimed author John Rothstein (Bruce Dern) is murdered in his home. He tells his killer, Morris Bellamy (Gabriel Ebert), that he was expecting him. That’s mysterious. Bellamy looks to have a mother figure in Alma Lane (Kate Mulgrew). He brags to her saying that the media compares his killing to Mr. Mercedes’, but Alma only wants to know if he was able to secure Rothstein’s unpublished manuscripts. Bellamy did not. It looks like he crashes his car during the getaway from the killing, which leaves a suitcase with manuscripts and a pile of cash for a young man to find. That kid just entered a No Country for Old Men situation.

Per the trailer, the new season Mr. Mercedes is set to premiere on the Audience Network on Sept. 10. It utilizes a storyline from Stephen King’s Mr. Mercedes trilogy that wasn’t used in the first two seasons. It’ll be interesting to see how the show pivots to this new storyline.

Are you excited for the return of Mr. Mercedes? Do you think Lou is faking her talks with Brady? Let’s discuss in the comments!
