Apple TV unveils the first trailer for its upcoming comedy series, Dickinson.

The first look at the new half-hour series promises a fun and slightly raunchier take on Emily Dickinson’s life. Oscar-nominated actress, Hailee Steinfeld, steps into the leading role as the infamous poet who defies societal expectations. Based on the trailer, Dickinson, may not be entirely historically accurate but it will be a lot of fun.

Alena Smith (The Affair) serves as the creator, writer, and executive producer for the upcoming series. Hailee Steinfeld will also serve as an executive producer while the series itself hails from Paul Lee’s studio, Anonymous Content, Sugar23 Productions, David Gordon Green, wiip, Darlene Hunt, and Smith.

Dickinson will follow the titular character as she struggles against what society and her family expect from her. It is billed as a “coming of age” story as the young poet finds her way in the 19th century.

Emily Dickinson was born in 1830 to a prominent family however, historians think she lived a life of solititude. While she was decently known for her poems, it wasn’t until after her death that she really sky-rocketed to popularity. Her writing style has always been at the center of many poetry discussions so she seemed to defy convential rules with unique capitalization and punctuation.
