Apple streaming service will launch sometime in 2019 with Dickinson.

Apple gave a straight-to-series green light to a brand-new show, Dickinson.

The 30-minute comedy will star Hailee Steinfeld as the title character. You may know the Oscar-nominated actress from True Grit, Pitch Perfect 2 and 3, and the Edge of Seventeen. Not only is Steinfeld a successful actress, but she is also a recording artist.

Dickinson, written by Alena Smith (The Newsroom and The Affair), follows the life and times of the famous poet, Emily Dickinson. According to Deadline, the setting of the show will be the 1800s, but have a “modern sensibility and tone.”

The show will concentrate on Emily’s navigation of society, gender, and her family while fighting to get her own voice heard. It’s going to be a coming-of-age story, and who doesn’t love those? I know I’m here for it.

Apple streaming service launched its only show, Planet of the Apps in 2017, to mostly negative reviews. It’s basically a knock-off of Shark Tank. But the revamped Apple streaming service will launch early next year with a slew of new content.

The new series will join three other shows with high-profile actresses on Apple. Hello Sunshine, a drama about a morning show will star Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer Aniston. The crime thriller, Are You Sleeping, starring Octavia Spencer and a yet-to-be-named comedy starring Kristen Wiig will also join Apple.

Also in the works are series from Steven Spielberg, Ronald D. Moore, Damien Chazelle, and M. Night Shyamalan.

It sounds like Apple came to play. In a world where streaming services like Netflix and Hulu rule, now is the right time for them to make their move.

I’m looking forward to the new Dickinson series. How about you? Tell us what you think in the comments.
