Vagabond – September 19

Vagabond is a new Korean espionage thriller about a stuntman who gets caught up in a conspiracy when his nephew dies in a suspicious plane crash. Lee Seung-gi plays the stuntman and Bae Suzy plays a conflicted National Intelligence Service officer. The series is a big-time production with filming locations in Morocco and Portugal. The trailer is full of action and intrigue – which is appropriate considering the main character is a stuntman.

In fact, most the trailer seems to be comprised of explosions and running intercut with shots of Bae Suzy’s naked back. Both Lee Seung-gi and Bae Suzy are big names out of Korea, with high-profile musical careers in the K-Pop scene. I don’t think for a moment that this is going to be anything but superficial, over-the-top action nonsense – but it does look like a lot of fun.

Criminal – September 20

The first thing you need to know about this series is that David Tennant is in it. If that’s not enough to sell you – and really, it should be – there are plenty more unique and intriguing things that should put this show on the top of your bingeing list. Criminal is a police interrogation drama set entirely in the interrogation room. It’s a stripped-down, contained drama that pits police with criminals one on one.

The series is also set across four different countries – the UK, France, Germany, and Spain – with local actors and in their local languages. The show comes from Killing Eve writer George Kay and also stars Hayley Atwell (Agent Carter). The trailer doesn’t give anything away except for the cast and the intense tone of the series, which leaves me all the more intrigued.
