The Politician – September 27

Glee and American Horror Story creator Ryan Murphy comes to Netflix with a darkly comedic and ironic series about cutthroat politics in high school. And as ruthless as the teenagers are going into this election or competition or whatever it is, the parents are there not only to support but to nurture vicious ambition in their children. The trailer alone is deliciously ironic and campy, with one parent first aghast at the idea of murder and then admitting support for the idea.

The comedy is timed perfectly as a counterpoint to the recent college admission scandal, with a pointed billboard for the series going up across the street from the University of Southern California campus. Said billboard features star Gwenyth Paltrow and fictional sons, with the tagline “I bought their way in, too.” As one Twitter user commented, Netflix got jokes.

Glitch: Season Three – TBD

The third and final season of the unconventional Australian zombie drama is coming to Netflix, probably this month on a date yet to be announced. The series is about several people who mysteriously come back to life, some after having been dead for decades. Instead of the usual mindless zombies, they come back as regular people but initially without their memories. I’m not totally clear on the details because I just heard about this show and haven’t had time to immediately binge it after I finish this article yet, but there seems to be some kind of barrier that keeps them alive and a lot of controversy concerning their existence and what it means for existence and universal balance in general.
