Hawkeye: Has the Disney Plus show found its Kate Bishop in Hailee Steinfeld?

New reports suggest that Bumblebee actor Hailee Steinfeld is being tapped to join Disney Plus show, Hawkeye. Is she going to play Kate Bishop?
The original Avengers in the Marvel Cinematic Universe may be no more, but that doesn’t mean fans can’t enjoy several spin-off properties featuring these characters. A solo Black Widow film is in production, while Jeremy Renner is set to reprise his role as Clint Barton in the Disney Plus Hawkeye series. But who else will join Renner in the spin-off? Variety has learned that Hailee Steinfeld is being eyed for a lead role on Hawkeye, but the news has not been confirmed as yet.
Steinfeld is most likely set to play Kate Bishop, the female Hawkeye in the comics. Kate is a much-loved character, a fine archer and a precocious socialite. She takes on the mantle of Hawkeye in Clint’s absence but thankfully retained it even after his return. Surprisingly, Kate’s superhero moniker was not given a feminized name either. One can expect plenty of banter between the two Hawkeyes, and some amount of levity – which has been missing especially with regards to Hawkeye’s MCU representation.
In the comics, Kate has worked alongside Clint on several missions, and she has also been part of the Young Avengers team. Rumors of the Young Avengers joining the MCU have been around for a long time, and the addition of Kate – if these latest Steinfeld claims are confirmed – will fuel anticipation that the young team will finally be adapted for the screen.
Steinfeld is a multi-talented star, whose recent appearance in the Transformers spin-off Bumblebee has many excited for her to appear in more genre features. Steinfeld already has a comic book adaptation credit to her name – she voiced Spider-Gwen in the Oscar-winning Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse film last year.
While fans keep their eye out for confirmation on Steinfeld being added to the MCU’s formidable roster of actors, viewers can look forward to regular updates about the many other MCU shows that are already in production or have been announced for Disney Plus.
