Daybreak: Netflix unveils new teaser for post-apocalyptic YA series
It’s Ferris Bueller meets the apocalypse in the new teaser for Netflix’s Daybreak.
The streaming service is adding another post-apocalyptic series to its roster of shows with the upcoming Daybreak. Unlike The Society, The 100, or The A List, this YA show is going to mix the seriousness of the apocalypse with a healthy dose of humor and campy violence. Based on the short teaser alone, this series is hoping to stand out among the pack.
Daybreak stars Colin Ford as Josh, a bit of a misfit in high school. However, he finds purpose in this new world trying to find his missing girlfriend, Sam (Sophie Simnett). Thankfully, he makes some friends in the apocalypse: the 12-year-old Angelica (Alyvia Alyn Lind) who has a penchant for setting things on fire and Wesley Fists (Austin Crute) a reformed bully with a samurai sword.
Unfortunately, the series has plenty of villains for Josh and his friends to face off against. Namely, the cheerleaders and the jocks have been promoted from mildly annoying high school students to full-blown Mad Max: Fury Road warriors.
Ford’s Josh really channels Ferris Bueller, from the way he breaks the fourth wall and looks up at the camera with a pair of sunglasses on. In a perfect homage, Matthew Broderick is also on the cast as Burr, the beloved principal at the local Glendale High School. It’s unclear what happens to him once the apocalypse happens but based on all of the violence, it might not be a pretty ending.
Daybreak is based on Brian Ralph’s graphic novel series of the same name. Brad Peyton (Rampage and San Andreas) and Aron Eli Coleite (Heroes) serve as the co-creators for the Netflix show.
All ten episodes will be available to stream on October 24.
