NYCC 2019: Are zombies coming to Runaways in season 3?

Some interesting new creatures could be headed to Runaways in season 3.

Remember when the weirdest thing on Runaways was a dinosaur? The Hulu series apparently plans to introduce a few new additions that will shake things up. At NYCC this year, the cast teased the darker tone and what that might mean for the kids.

Virginia Gardner, who plays Karolina Dean, actually revealed one of the creatures who might be lurking about this season. During a round table interview, she spoke a bit about what it’s like working on season 3.

"“I like the challenge as an actor of having to find ways to ground topics that seem ungroundable. So it’s fun, to have to like, you know you’re working with like zombies and you’re like ‘How do I make this real for me?’. So yeah, it’s a great challenge.”"

So it sounds like zombies might be making their way over to this Marvel show. Considering Runaways has attempted to be a bit more grounded, we doubt the series will turn into The Walking Dead anytime soon.

However, it does seem like a safe prediction that these new creatures will originate from Morgan le Fay. The infamous sorceress is slated to debut this season with actress Elizabeth Hurley taking on the role. From the trailer, we’ve already gotten a taste of her abilities and she’s expected to drag the kids to some dark new worlds.

Lyrica Okano also spoke about le Fay during her interview and about the themes throughout this season.

"“I’d say it’s a whole lot of magic and a whole lot of action. And because Morgan le Fay comes into our season this year, it’s not just the magic we’ve seen with the staff, it’s otherworldly.”"

With new magic comes a whole new set of creatures. If the show is truly beginning to phase out Jonah and his aliens, we expect to see a whole new world come into play.

Runaways will stream all ten episodes of its third season on Hulu on December 13.
