Marvel’s Runaways is about to get a little more magical.

In a surprise casting announcement, Deadline reported that Elizabeth Hurley has been tapped to play the iconic Marvel villain, Morgan Le Fay, in the Hulu series. Her inclusion seems to hint that Runaways season 3 is going to have the kids face off against someone different, and more powerful, than Jonah.

However, the choice to use Morgan Le Fay is a bit surprising because Runaways has seemed uninterested in delving into some of the more mystical elements. One of the major changes made in the television show was to have Nico’s staff actually be a high-tech gadget compared to the “Staff of One” from the comics.

Le Fay was created by the legendary Stan Lee and was inspired by the infamous Arthurian legends. In the Marvel Universe, she’s half-faerie and the scheming half-sister to King Arthur. She’s also a master of the mystic arts and is undoubtedly strong enough to cause many problems for the teenage heroes. However, one has to wonder if the kids might approach her for help dealing with their Jonah problem before Le Fay steps into the spotlight as a major antagonist.

Nevertheless, the official description released by Hulu for her character already hints that there is a dark future for the Runaways.

"“Morgan le Fay is an iconic Marvel villain. A student of Merlin, she is considered the greatest sorceress of all time. With a black crow as her familiar and the ability to enchant objects, manipulate mystic energy and astral project, she is powerful and intelligent with a cutthroat wit.”"

Elizabeth Hurley just recently wrapped up her series, The Royals, which was canceled last fall. The cancellation came as a bit of a surprise with many expecting the show to be shopped to Pop TV.

There is no confirmation about when the third season of the hit Marvel show will air but it is expected sometime in the fall or winter. It was renewed by Hulu in March for a shortened season of ten episodes compared to the usual thirteen for Marvel streaming shows. However, Runaways did have only ten episodes in season 1 and more Marvel series seem to be following suit with Cloak & Dagger comprising of only ten for both of its seasons.
