The Lord of the Rings adaptation finds another star!

While Amazon has yet to officially confirm the news, Deadline reports that Joseph Mawle has joined the cast of the upcoming Lord of the Rings series. The new series is considered one of the most anticipated for next year and Amazon is remaining tight-lipped on details.

According to the report, Mawle is suspected to play the villain, Oren. He joins the already cast Will Poulter, who plays the protagonist Beldor, and Markella Kavenagh, who plays another lead named Tyra.

The series is being written by JD Payne and Patrick McKay, while Amazon has nabbed Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom director, JA Bayona. Amazon is producing the series, and the Tolkien Estate is working alongside the studio. The fact that they’re a part of the process does make it seem like the series will be faithful to the universe.

This Lord of the Rings series won’t follow any of Tolkien’s books specifically. Instead, it takes place in the same universe but will take place before The Fellowship of the Ring. This allows for the show to utilize its own original characters without getting tied down to any already developed storylines.

dark. Next. 11 Netflix originals to binge in October

Joseph Mawle is mainly known for his work on Game of Thrones. The actor played Benjen Stark, the uncle to the infamous six Stark children. Considering Amazon is hoping this series becomes the new “Game of Thrones“, his casting seems perfect.
