The Power: Leslie Mann joins Amazon’s upcoming thriller
The Power adds Leslie Mann in a starring role!
While Leslie Mann has made a name for herself in comedic films, she’s about to tackle a whole new project. Deadline reports the actress has been cast as the lead of Amazon’s upcoming thriller, The Power.
The series is based on the novel of the same name by Naomi Alderman who is also in charge of the Amazon adaptation. It’s considered a “sci-fi feminist” book and follows multiple protagonists. Leslie Mann has been cast in the role of Margot Cleary-Lopez, the mayor of Seattle. While she’s campaigned on the persona of being a “loving wife and doting mother of three”, there’s more that lurks beneath the surface.
According to Margot’s character description, she’s the perfect politician. She’s a rising force in politics, thanks to her charm and smarts but faces plenty of online trolls as well as tension at home. Despite her career success, tension at home seems to be aplenty. Deadline teases that her husband, Rob, and daughter, Jos, will be affected the most and that one will suffer a betrayal while the other finds a “greater understanding”.
The Power is focused on a world where teenage girls all of a sudden have the ability to electrocute people. Almost immediately, people become infatuated with “the power” they now hold over others and it seems like this newfound gift isn’t something that can be taken away. According to the synopsis, it’s something that eventually older women develop as well.

Amazon has ordered ten episodes for the new series. There is no word yet on who else has been cast in the other major roles.
