Netflix releases first look at Christian Serratos in Selena: The Series

Check out the first look at Netflix’s upcoming Selena series!

Selena Quintanilla fans, it’s time to rejoice! For years, we’ve watched and rewatched the late Tejano singer’s story in Selena starring Jennifer Lopez. But now, Netflix is bringing us a new adaptation in 2020 starring The Walking Dead’s Christian Serratos as the woman herself.

The first look shows Serratos dressed up in Selena’s infamous glittery purple outfit (one that we’ll not soon forget) looking over the series’ script. The teaser also reveals two additional cast members who will be playing the role of the Quintanilla parents–Seidy Lopez as Marcella Quintanilla and Ricardo Chavira as Abraham Quintanilla.

According to Deadline, this coming-of-age story will chronicle the singer’s rise to fame and of course, the tragic ending to a life that ended too soon. Growing up, I would listen to Selena’s music and have watched the movie starring J-Lo more times than I can count. Suffice to say, I am so ecstatic about Netflix’s take on her life story.

After watching the teaser above, I am so happy that Serratos was the actress they went with to play the role of the late Tejano singer. Just seeing a tiny glimpse of her proves that she fits into the role perfectly in every which way, which can only mean wonderful things for the series when it premieres the first part in 2020.

The series will kick off with six one-hour long episodes, with more to follow, details of which are not known yet. In that regard, we don’t currently have a premiere date but considering principal photography just began last month, I think we can anticipate sometime in late 2020.

Along with Serratos, Lopez, and Chavira, there are some other integral members of the cast that are worth mentioning.

  • Gabriel Chavarria as A.B. Quintanilla (Selena’s brother)
  • Noemi Gonzalez as Suzette Quintanilla (Selena’s sister)
  • Madison Taylor Baez (Young Selena)
