Better Call Saul sets two night premiere for season five
By Luke Lucas
Jimmy McGill’s transformation into Saul Goodman picks up where it left off with a two-night Better Call Saul premiere on AMC. We’ve got the very early details!
I was scrolling through Instagram at work, as you do, when I saw something I’d been waiting for. No. Not another sheepadoodle on a couch asking #IsItFridayYet. I saw a teaser on the Better Call Saul official account that I hadn’t seen before. That’s because it’s the first teaser for season five!
It’s only 15 seconds long. But, it’s only a teaser. You see Saul’s face in a big splash of gaudy goldenrod. It reads Saul Goodman Attorney at Law with the catchy tagline of “Speedy Justice for You.” There’s a phone number that’s been ringing busy all day when I try to call it. And, there’s an early version of the Saul (Bob Odenkirk) we first met in season two of Breaking Bad. He has more hair and he hasn’t transitioned to pastels, yet. But Jimmy McGill isn’t pointing at us on that picture. It’s all Saul.
Of course, the best part of the teaser is when the whole picture starts to rotate. We weren’t looking at a poster or a billboard. We were zoomed in on a business card that was being held by a cuffed prisoner in a holding area. You can watch the teaser here.
Per a report from Rolling Stone, season five will premeire with a two-night event. The first episode is set to air on Sunday, February 23 at 10 PM EDT. The second episode will air on Monday, February 24 at 9 PM EDT. The rest of the season will air on Mondays at 9 PM EDT.
A few hours later, Better Call Saul posted a production still of Saul standing next to Huell (Lavell Crawford) at what looks to be some kind of carnival. There’s a churro cart and a roped-off entrance to a tent that looks a lot like a smaller version of the tents used to cover the cook sites in season five, part one of Breaking Bad.
The caption is simply: “Huell be waiting.” I wonder if it’s a free legal counseling fair set up by Saul. Come for the free churros. Stay for the legal advice. I can just hear Saul promising services that’ll he only provide for a fee. Huell is the security for people who aren’t so willing to pay too much for a lawyer throwing an open house in a parking lot. Saul looks excited. So do I. I can’t wait for February!
