For All Mankind season 1, episode 4 recap: Prime Crew
By Ariba Bhuvad
The group deals with Patty’s death as Molly prepares to go to the moon in this episode of For All Mankind.
For All Mankind touches on more than the alternate history angle. In fact, it sheds light on social commentary and how when history changes, that becomes an integral part of how things could have been. I’m loving that they’re going in with everything for the female astronauts’ storyline. It’s giving me so much life!
The group deals with Patty’s death throughout this episode as Molly prepares to go on the Apollo 15 mission. Unfortunately, President Nixon is considering putting a complete stop on sending women to space and wants to focus on creating the first lunar base. As far as he’s concerned, why bother with the females when they could try and actually beat the Russians at something.
Deke is not about that life and decides that he’s not going to listen to any such orders. These women are going up there, and that’s that. I found so much respect for Deke at that moment because someone finally gets it!
Now, there’s something that I haven’t touched in the previous recaps and that’s the topic of Aleida. Throughout the episodes, we’ve seen a young girl who is in love with the idea of space and everything involved with it. Her father works as a janitor at NASA and is always trying to create opportunities for his daughter to experience that world.

Speaking of opportunities, the character of Ellen, as we learn, is a lesbian. But given the nature of the time period, she has to hide her sexual preference. She does so by pretending to date a man just to keep a front. Just another reminder of how things were at that time, and that not even alternate history can change that.
Just as this episode of For All Mankind comes to an end, we are left with the overwhelming feeling of Molly heading off into space. This is going to be epic AF, and I can’t wait to see what happens next. Next stop: The Moon!
