11 binge-worthy Netflix originals to end the year right
The Witcher: Season One – December 20
The Witcher is the highly anticipated adaptation of Andrzej Sapkowski’s book series of the same name. While a Polish series has already been done based on the works, the show left fans unsatisfied, making way for this big-budget epic. Henry Cavill plays a solitary monster hunter named Geralt of Rivia, a Witcher who is shunned by the society of humans but exploited for his skill. Destiny draws him into conflict when he meets a powerful sorceress and a young princess.
This fantasy production looks lavish, with the same kind of detailed world-building and intense storylines that made Game of Thrones popular. In fact, The Witcher seems to neatly fill the gap left by Game of Thrones, with one review saying, “The fight scenes In The Witcher makes Game of Thrones’ fights look awful.” If you’re into some “good, solid pulp-fantasy nonsense,” then you can’t go wrong with The Witcher. And don’t worry if you get hooked, because the series has already been renewed for a second season.
Lost in Space: Season Two – December 24
There was a lot of trepidation from fans regarding this remake of the beloved science fiction series from the 60s, especially given the disappointing and poorly rated film version from 1998. And given the trend in television right now, many fans worried that what Netflix would come up with would be something inappropriately dark and gritty, not at all in keeping with the tone of the original series.
However, Lost in Space was a hit with audiences, not least of all because of a strangely attractive robot, and its second season has been highly anticipated. Unfortunately, season two sees the Robinsons’ hunky robot go missing. Once again separated from the rest of the colonists headed for Alpha Centauri, the Robinsons go in search of their robot while trying to get back on course. Of course, an all-new series of adventures and challenges await them along the way.
