Netflix announces release date for Children’s Hospital off-shoot Medical Police
Netflix has set a release date for Medical Police, the genre-bending comedy from the creators of Adult Swim’s Children’s Hospital.
Netflix has set a January 10 release date for the new action-comedy Medical Police, starring Erinn Hayes (Huge in France) and Rob Huebel (Transparent). The series follows two pediatric doctors stationed in Sao Paulo, Brazil who uncover a globe threatening virus. According to the key art, they’re cops! And doctors. At the same time! Hence the title Medical Police.
The series spans genres: part action-packed drama, part mystery romance, and all comedy. It sounds off-beat, unique, and over-the-top, which is everything that can be expected from co-creators Krister Johnson (Wet Hot American Summer: Ten Years Later), Rob Corddry (The Daily Show), Jonathan Stern (Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Return), and David Wain (Wet Hot American Summer). The series creators are also set to serve as executive producers and writers.
Medical Police will co-star Sarayu Blue (The Unicorn), Rob Corddry (Ballers), Malin Akerman (Trophy Wife), Ken Marino (Veronica Mars) and Lake Bell (Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp), with various guest stars including Jason Schwartzman (Rushmore) and Fred Melamed (A Serious Man).
If the cast list sounds familiar, many of the names would have appeared in Children’s Hospital and in various David Wain projects (The State, Wet Hot American Summer, Stella, Role Models, Wanderlust, etc). Between the various creators and cast members, this series has a huge number of high profile comedic connections that could possibly make guest appearances, including Rob Corddry’s former The Daily Show co-stars and David Wain’s stable of actors. Looking at the staggering list of impressive guest stars on Children’s Hospital, the possibilities are almost literally endless.
Even without big-name guest stars, Medical Police has an impressive comedic pedigree and huge potential to reach the same kind of critically acclaimed, under-the-radar cult status genius of Children’s Hospital, or my personal favorite, Stella. I’m already on board.
