Brooklyn Nine-Nine stays on the beat with new season 7 trailer
By Luke Lucas
Brooklyn Nine-Nine dropped a trailer for season 7. It’s all about the ’80s: Over the top VO, VHS Hi-Fi, and Vanessa Bayer! Say what?! We’ve got the details!
Brooklyn Nine-Nine is a fully formed being that is confident in who they are: a giant kid. Last season’s trailer featured Jake (Andy Samberg) in a Die Hard spoof. His fire hose swing through the screen was the feat the character was born to achieve. Until, you know, he embraced the possibility of starting a family with Amy (Melissa Fumero) after a bomb threat. Cool. Cool. Cool.
For season 7, we get a VHS recording, complete with ear-piercing treble, that’s dripping in 80’s commercial nostalgia. Back in the day before Twitter, TMZ, and the end of cigarette billboards, we never knew when or if our favorite shows were coming back for a new season. Then, usually around late August, we’d get one of these beauties.
The commercial would catch you up on only one of last season’s major plot points, tell you what kind of capers our heroes would get into in the new season, and spotlight their new haircuts. Which, as the ’80s went on, were always shorter, but with even more product. Toit. Toit. Toit.
You can watch the new trailer here. Let me just tell you, Blammo! Jake is back and he’s on the beat. The Brooklyn Nine-Nine beat, boiee! He’s wearing a badge, a hoodie, and a pastel shirt as he gets off an airplane. What?! Holy Crockett! And he’s joined by his demoted and demoralized former Captain Raymond Holt (Andre Braugher). Pigeons won’t shoo from him, garbage bags are tossed at him, and his beloved Cheddar (RIP Stewart the Corgi) will only poop for his husband Kevin (Marc Evan Jackson).
The dynamic duo is joined by Charles (Joe Lo Truglio) and returning fan-favorite Adrian Pimento (Jason Mantzoukas). Charles and Pimento are stuck on a ledge with Jake for some awesome reason. Does it have something to with the assassination attempt? Who knows, but assassinations were a hot item on detective shows in the 80’s. What the hell was wrong with our country back then? What the hell is wrong with it now? Bingpot!
Jake and Holt join forces to solve the case. Luckily, Rosa (Stephanie Beatriz) is there to deliver sternum punches and side-eye. Terry (Terry Crews) is there to clothesline fleeing perps and be very concerned about everyone’s welfare. Amy is there to take charge and yell “Hey, fuzzy paws! You’re here to work. Not lick your butthole!” at a police doggo. And Hitchcock (Dirk Blocker) and Scully (Joel McKinnon Miller), aka Flat Top and the Mad Man, are there to relive their glory days by putting sunglasses on in slow motion! Yeah, son!
We even get our first glimpse of Vanessa Beyer’s sheepish, yet eager, character in uniform. She looks ready to throw down. And so are we all! Nine-nine! Brooklyn Nine-Nine returns to NBC for its seventh season on Thursday, February 6 at 8 PM EDT with a two-episode event. That’s less than a month away! Cool. Cool. Toit. Cool. Cool. Cool. Cool. Cool.
