The Undoing: HBO reveals first trailer for Nicole Kidman and Hugh Grant series
HBO reveals first look at The Undoing, the upcoming limited series thriller starring Nicole Kidman and Hugh Grant.
HBO has unveiled the first trailer for The Undoing, a limited series thriller from the new dream team of David E. Kelley and Nicole Kidman and award-winning director Susanne Bier (The Night Manager).
The Undoing is based on Jean Hanff Korelitz’s bestselling novel You Should Have Known in which Grace (Kidman) and her husband Jonathan (Hugh Grant) appear to be living the perfect life, until Jonathan’s mysterious disappearance is somehow linked to a public disaster, leaving Grace devastated by the ways in which she has failed to follow her own authorly advice about heeding her intuition.
The trailer features Kidman talking with her father (Donald Sutherland) over a game of chess about how all she ever wanted was the perfect life, but the undertones of that conversation are already sinister. It’s not long before Kidman is talking with police detectives as if she’s a suspect in some criminal investigation. In fact, there seems to be a lot of police involvement, including an NYPD helicopter landing outside what could be Kidman’s home.
Sutherland chastises her, saying that she’s always seen things so clearly, how can she not see this now? Whatever this is, she probably just doesn’t want to see it or think that she could be a victim of the very pitfalls she believes herself to be above. It’s all very sinister and dangerous. Her chess game with Sutherland ends with her toppling the board in anger.
Edgar Ramirez, Ismael Cruz Cordova, Matilda De Angelis, Lily Rabe, Noma Dumezweni, Noah Jupe, Sofie Gråbøl, and Donald Sutherland also star. Bier is set to direct the project, while David E. Kelley will write the series and serve as showrunner, producing with Bier alongside Kidman’s Blossom Pictures. The Undoing will be released on HBO in May 2020.
