Soundtrack: Netflix cancels musical series after one season
Soundtrack has played its last song.
Unfortunately, Netflix’s musical drama, Soundtrack, won’t be back for another season. Deadline reports the series has been canceled after only one season.
The show centered around various love stories throughout Los Angeles and featured many flashbacks to show how they started as well as where they ended up in the present time. Aptly titled, Soundtrack, also featured many great musical choices.
Josh Safran, the creator of Quantico and showrunner of Smash, was also responsible for this series. It was originally titled Mixtape, where it’s pilot was ordered by FOX before getting picked up by Netflix. The show starred Jenna Dewan (Step Up, World of Dance), Callie Hernandez (La La Land), Marianne Jean-Baptiste (Blindspot, Homecoming), Paul James (The Path, Greek), Jahmil French (Boost), Megan Ferguson (The Comedians), Madeleine Stowe (Revenge), and Campbell Scott (Damages).
All ten episodes of the series debuted on December 18, 2019. Usually, Netflix will give freshman shows a bit of time before deciding their fates, however, Soundtrack didn’t seem to find the audience the streamer was looking for. On top of that, the series held only a 38% on Rotten Tomatoes, which unfortunately meant it also didn’t find critical success either.
It doesn’t sound as if the show will be shopped around. While it was once one of the buzziest pilots, the hype for Soundtrack has died down drastically. That being said, in the time of revivals and last-minute saves, there’s always hope.
