Superman & Lois will be headlining their own show on The CW, and the cast continues to grow. Meet the couple’s twin sons.

The CW has officially greenlit the return of the Man of Steel with Superman & Lois. Tyler Hoechlin and Elizabeth Tulloch are set to reprise their roles as Clark Kent/Superman and Lois Lane respectively, while Deadline reports that the first family is now complete with the couple’s sons being cast. Jordan Elsass and Alexander Garfin will co-star as Jonathan and Jordan, the teenage twins of the super-couple.

Jonathan Kent is a canon character, named after Clark’s adoptive human father, while Jordan seems to have been created specifically for the show. Character descriptions shared by Deadline suggest that the twins are polar opposites of each other – Jonathan on the show appears similar to his earnest, clean-cut comic book counterpart.

Jordan, on the other hand, has a ‘mercurial temperament and social anxiety’, and he likes playing video games. Popular media has always struggled with its portrayal of twins, and there’s a chance that Superman & Lois will fall into several of familiar traps, such as having a good twin and a bad one. But, if the showrunners are smart, Jordan’s characterization could represent troubled teenagers suffering from myriad real-life mental or social disorders.

In the ‘Crisis on Infinite Earths’ finale, Lois revealed to Clark that they had two boys instead of just one. The revelation surprised many and speculation was rife that Lois was referring to their own biological child, Jonathan, and their virtually adopted son, Damian Wayne, son of Bruce Wayne/Batman, and Jonathan’s frequent partner-in-crime in Super-Sons. The other possibility was that Conner Kent, the clone of Superman and Lex Luthor, had been brought into the Kent household. Unfortunately, neither of those theories were true, and instead the showrunners have created a brand new character to add to the drama.

Superman & Lois will follow the superhero and reporter-at-large as they struggle with domestic life in Metropolis. The show intends to give viewers a glimpse at how these characters juggle the stress and tension of family and work. This grounded view sounds like a novel idea for this straight-to-series show, but it all depends on how well it will be executed.

Superman & Lois has been officially ordered to series and is expected to air this fall.
