Gugu Mbatha-Raw is the latest actor to join the cast of the Loki series on Disney Plus.
Marvel fans can welcome a new actor into the fold. Gugu Mbatha-Raw, who has starred in numerous films and television series, has been cast in the Marvel show Loki, Deadline reports. There are no details as yet on which character Mbatha-Raw is playing, however.
Mbatha-Raw has a varied resume of roles, including a lead in the science-fiction film The Cloverfield Paradox and Disney film A Wrinkle in Time. The English actress’ break out role was in Belle, before she starred opposite Will Smith in Concussion. Her most recent work includes being a series regular on The Morning Show.
Tom Hiddleston will be reprising his role as the fan-favorite Asgardian God of Mischief, and brother of Thor, on the Disney+ show. Loki was ignominiously killed by Thanos in the opening scene of Avengers: Infinity War, much to the devastation of Marvel fans across the world. The character then reappeared in the 2012 timeline of Avengers: Endgame, where he stole the Tesseract and vanished. The show is set to take place after the events of Endgame, alluding to the idea that his character is alive in the multiverse.
Marvel has been teasing details about the show though not much is known about who the characters that Loki will interact with are.
Mbatha-Raw joins the show as a female lead. Other cast members announced so far include Owen Wilson and Sophia Di Martino.
Production on Loki is already underway and the first teaser of the show was released recently by Disney during the Super Bowl. Though not confirmed as yet, Loki is set to debut in 2021, following the release of fellow Marvel shows, Falcon and the Winter Soldier in August of 2020 and WandaVision in December of this year.
