In episode 3 of Amazon’s The Feed, Meredith hides from murderous protesters and Max totally flips the glitch switch.

Previously on The Feed, Lawrence Hatfield (David Thewlis) was in hot water after apparently abusing his technology. Also, more people suffer attacks, including Anton (Anson Boon), who snapped and killed Sara (Milly Thomas) in a mental hospital in the presence of Tom Hatfield (Guy Burnet). Episode 3 begins with Max (Osy Ikhile) waking to see Evelyn (Clare-Hope Ashitey)
checking for updates on the recent hacks.

Meanwhile, as Kate (Nina Toussaint-White) begins traveling to a “digital detox” at a farm, Tom visits Dan (Shaquille Ali-Yebuah) in the hospital. What’s his health problem? Tom thinks he’s been on The Feed too often and it’s dangerous. To help build this impression, Dan is stuttering and seems addicted to the virtual world.

At The Feed headquarters, Ben Hatfield (Jeremy Neumark Jones) says that, after investigating their Mundles (or memory bundles), he has found no connection between Sarah and Anton. He’s also mad at Tom for some reason. Elsewhere, Meredith Hatfield (Michelle Fairley) meets Hau (Kwong Loke) regarding protests in his country.

In fact, they’re outside the building they’re meeting in. Hau introduces Meredith to President Quan (Art Malik). Quan is interested in The Feed for its spying properties. Before much further discussion, a man (Waylon Luke Ma) breaks in and makes an assassination attempt on Quan. Soon, protestors take over the building, leaving Gil (Chris Reilly) and Meredith to hide in the best spot they can find.

As this goes on, Lawrence can’t mentally connect with Meredith, which leads to his growing concern. He and Ben do discover that see Sara Hoyt’s sleep pattern matches Anton. It’s apparent that a murderous, self-destructive glitch is happening to people who fall asleep with the Feed on. Lawrence and Meredith are reunited at night. The question is, what are they reunited with? These strange events would surely put a strain on most relationships. Why would they be any different? In this very episode, we’re reminded that Miyu (Jing Lusi) have their marriage on the rocks.

A flick of the glitch switch

At the digital detox farm, Max and Evelyn meet Graham (Clive Russell) and Jane (Olwen Fouéré). Things take a dark turn before long. Max goes into a trancelike state and accidentally cuts himself in the kitchen. Tom and Kate soon arrive, and Tom privately asks Max about “total extraction” from The Feed network.

Max later gets a headache, most certainly from glitches. He is also nervous about his imminent marriage proposal to Eve. Kate also catches Max standing ominously above her and Tom’s baby, Bea. All that’s forgotten when Max and Tom Bea for a drive to help sleep. The subject of extraction comes up again, with Max mentioning someone named Abel (Carl McCrystal).

However, Max stops the car upon getting a headache again. Then he locks the doors and tells Tom, “It’s getting dark. Run!”  Tom, who had seen the glitch inspire Anton to kill only recently, knows he and his baby are in danger.  He punches Max repeatedly, manages to unlock the door and takes off with Bea into the woods.

Max gives chase, also shooting at Tom with a bow and some arrows. One of the arrows hits Tom in his shoulder. At one point, Max almost seems back to his senses, saying he doesn’t know what’s happening. Although Tom removes part of the arrow from his body, Max overpowers him, seeming to successfully drown him. However, it proves to be a fakeout. As Max turns his attention to Bea, Tom stabs him in the leg. Finally, Kate and Eve arrive, and Kate shoots Max, apparently killing him.
