Doctor Who takes it back to the origin of Frankenstein!

Doctor Who loves it spooky horror stories, and this time around, the series tackled Frankenstein. I love that they went here and chose to focus on yet another important historical female. This is something that has been the show’s M.O. since they brought in Jodie Whittaker, and this season, in particular, has given some gems (and let’s not forget season 11’s, “Rosa”).

However, this week the Doctor and the companions show up on a rainy night in Geneva, to the very night Mary Shelley comes up with the story of Frankenstein. The night doesn’t go as expected initially once the gang shows up. Freaky, supernatural occurrences begin to occur and it leads us to the very story we’ve been waiting for all season–Cybermen.

Now, I could recount all the moments from the episode, but I want to focus on the Cybermen connection here. Throughout the episode, there is something sinister going on, and it turns out that there is a piece of tech (liquid metal) known as Cyberium that was absorbed by Mary Shelley’s husband.

He was nowhere to be found, but we learn that absorbing this metal made him invisible, and there was something else in the house in pursuit of it–the lone Cyberman! Yes, Captain Jack Harkness’ warning has finally come to fruition and introduced us to the dreaded Doctor Who villain.

There’s something super freaky about this version of the Cybermen. This one, in particular, is scary because of its half-human, half-Cybermen face. The haunting allure of it is going to carry us into this season’s Doctor Who finale.

While the Doctor saves everyone in the mansion, she does let the Cyberman leave with the Cyberium. This was a very risky move on her part, and it could lead to severe circumstances. Some of which we will likely see in the two-part finale starting this week.
